How It Started

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta began in 1972 with just 13 balloons in a shopping mall parking lot. It was organized by Sid Cutter, a local balloon pilot, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of KOB Radio. Since then, it has grown into the largest ballooning event in the world, attracting over 500 balloons and thousands of spectators each year.
