The airport’s code, MCO, stands for McCoy Air Force Base, the former name prior to 1975. By area, it’s one of the largest commercial airports in the United States at 12,600 acres. In 2021, it handled over 19 million travelers, making it the busiest airport in Florida and the seventh most active in the US.
